The holiday season is upon us! We’ve observed within ourselves and in watching all of our wonderful patients that balance seems to be a challenge at this time of year. It gets very busy around the holidays, with many demands on our time and energy.
We encourage you to stop at least once a day, and breathe, and reflect upon the things you are rushing to do. Do they all truly need to be done? Are they adding value to your life and the lives of your spouse, family and special people? If not… can they wait for another time? If not… why not? These are serious questions, and they have a greater impact on your health and well-being than you could ever imagine. When we live our lives in “rush” mode, in “do” mode, in “have to” mode, we are living in stress. When we are living in stress it depletes all aspects of our physical and emotional health. We recently welcomed a new family to our practice, and when we were reviewing scans and assessments for the family we encouraged mom to put herself first with adjustments at this time. A difficult thing to do, to be sure, but if a parent is healthy and able to manage in their life from a place of thriving then the whole family does better!
Most important of all, we want you to remember that this lesson is not just for the Christmas season. We encourage you to take the habit of slowing down and prioritizing yourself, your health and your emotional well-being into the New Year and make it a practice that you continue with through all of 2014.
